Hmmm...does the report title mean "I finished." Or, "I'm finished!" The answer is both. Check out this photo.
As Bill jokingly asked me before the race: When you finish, will you have your shoes bronzed and hung on the wall? Well, I hadn't thought of that before but that turned out to be a great idea.
You all have heard me belly-aching about how I don't like to run and two hours is just about my limit before I get even crankier and start wondering why on Earth I would want to keep going. Believe me, I'm not suggesting that other people wanting to keep going is anything other than incredibly tough---it's just not for me. So, my goal on Saturday was to finish Capon Valley, and get it out of my system for good. When I got sick before Greenway this year and didn't think it wise to approach the starting line, I needed something to scratch the ultra itch. Capon Valley seemed just the thing---I'd done it before twice and it has the reputation for being relatively easy. Plus, the extra time would allow me to train a little more responsibly than I had been training before Greenway. Good intentions gave way to good margaritas between March and May, but still, we'd put in some good work-outs, eh? Adventure Day at Lorrin and Joe's. Greenhorn with Lorrin. That really cold run with Michelle, Mical, Lorrin, Mark and Gillian on the Catoctin Trail.
Anyway, with a lot of help and encouragement, I finished Capon Valley and now I'm thinking about focusing on being a really good support crew member, getting in some 5 - 10 mile runs in the woods, and feeling really good about that instead of thinking that I've fallen short of my own expectations. It does feel great---can you tell?

I'm not sure I can top Megan's post or Ken's race report! I will only say that I enjoyed the weather on Saturday, I think I'm part duck. I watched in awe as Ken contemplated more layers. I was perfectly happy in my shorts and short sleeve shirt, then again, I have a little more insulation than he does. I enjoyed a fun day with Amanda and Lorrin and completed my 5th Capon Valley 50k! And on Friday I mailed my applications to Highlands Sky and Cheat Mountain Moonshine Madness. Let the madness continue!!
Finally! A sane one out of the bunch. Nice job Megan even though I'm bummed I never got to run the Greenway or HAT with you. I guess we'll always have SDP to remember fondly. Great picture too, you certainly don't look like you've run 31+ miles.
Michelle...I am not surprised at you.
Congratulations ladies. You too Amanda!
Congrats everyone! Now we'll find out if Megan really has ultras out of her system. But really, I'm glad you finished, so you don't have to find another 50k coming up, like Catoctin or something ;).
Support crew!!?? I thought we were at the dawn of your Adventure racing career now that that annoying "running only" event is out of the way!
Great job, Megan! You have done on multiple occasions what most people will never do. And now you have given me a goal to try and achieve: to be able to keep up with you on one of those ten mile trail runs in your future. I think it's safe to assume you won't be hearing my gasping breaths at your side at the finish line any time soon ;-)
