WV Camping and Running

It seemed like the babies, Eddie (6 weeks) and Erik (almost 6 months), enjoyed their first camping trip as much as the rest of us! Here’s a quick recap of the fun! We were treated to some beautiful weather on Friday evening as we arrived and set up camp at Seneca Shadows. Saturday, we got a fairly early start (sorry, Joe!) on the running—Cathy, Joe, Amanda, and I were running about 20 miles (first half of Highlands Sky) and Megan and Bill were off to help with aid and get in 6-7 miles on the trail. Michelle was forced to take it easy with the broken foot so she hung back with Lorrin, Paul, and the babies, who would meet us at our aid drop.

The run started off warm and a bit humid, with some passing clouds. It was gorgeous as always and the trail was dry and in great shape (thanks to the WVMTR who had been out doing trail work recently!). We made quick progress (saw lots of wildflowers and two snakes) to our aid drop, where we enjoyed cooling off in the stream we crossed in order to get up to the road. It was great to see everyone and get some much needed food and drink (thanks, guys!). We headed off and especially enjoyed the last few flatter miles to FR 19. We even met up with Paul and Lorrin who took the boys for a short hike. I called it a day at the road; the others finished off the last 2.5 downhill miles. I felt pretty good after the run—maybe even feeling more confident about HS? We shall see!

Once back at camp, with beer and food in hand, we watched the sky darken and felt the wind pick up. When the rains came, we huddled under the canopy to wait for it to pass. Luckily it passed quickly and we were able to grill up our dinner and enjoy the campfire til we all crashed. So, another successful HS training run/camping trip—proving that yes, you can camp with infants or a broken foot. My pictures

Nice report Mical. Your pictures are great---there are some great ones of the 3 of you, especially on the Sunday hike. It's great to see Erik enjoys WV as much as the rest of us.
