Milestone Achieved!

I know the loyal fans (thanks Caren!) are eagerly awaiting the full Promise Land report and pictures, and we'll post them soon. But as I filled out the application for MMTR (Mical made me. And I've been drinking homemade wine.) I came to an important realization. Ok, 2 realizations:

Realization 1: Way back in the fall of 2002, my friend Natalie (who just had beautiful baby Sicily on the 24th), asked me to train for a spring marathon with her. I was trying to quit smoking, and a marathon seemed like just a big enough hurdle for me to finally get serious. This was for the March 2003 DC marathon, that turned into the Unofficial DC Marathon after it was cancelled (but we ran anyway). Then Joe wanted to train for a marathon. As we trained for the 2003 Marathon in the Parks, I made a promise to myself that I would run a marathon for each year I smoked: 16.

Then I found ultras. The MMTR application asks number of marathons/ultras and as I tallied them up, I realized I was already at 17. I made my goal, something I originally thought would take a decade, in just 4 years! (And that's not even counting the 50-miler twice.) The best thing is that I very, very rarely crave smoking now. But I better keep running...

Realization 2: What is wrong with me that I sign up for MMTR when I can still barely walk down the steps to the mailbox?

Holy cow, I had no idea this was your running history! Truly amazing Lorrin. Congrats again on some awesome races this winter and spring.

They really ought to come up with a name for this sickness...you can't help signing up all over again, and you still can't walk normal. I love it.

Congratulations on reaching that milestone, awesome! I'm sorry I won't be attempting MMTR with you. Maybe someone else will want to do the series with me in 2008?? Caren??

That's awesome, Lorrin! I can't believe that I also signed up for MMTR when I'm still suffering from BRR and PL. What are we thinking?!

You are all crazy, that's what I say. Lorrin was a crazy smoker and now she is a crazy runner. But with the price of tobacco going up, running is probably cheaper.

I have always regretted missing the first run in 2003 (stupid terriosts), but I am continually proud and amazed by how you all keep running more races. Even on camping trips! I actually think you run them every weekend.

I think that is awesome as well Lorrin. Congrats on reaching a goal you set out to conquer. And I am happy that I was able to run a few of those races with you. And I hope to run many more with you as well. Keep up the awesome job

16 years of smoking means you smoked in the barn when you were 14. I never knew. Congratulations on your decisions to stop smoking and start running. I really enjoy your, and your friends blog.

You know, the series doesn't sound like a such a bad idea in '08. Mical's gonna have to sell MMTR a whole lot better though!

So Caren, sounds like it's you and me doing the LUS in '08!!
