This past Saturday night I found myself in the DARK on the Appalachian Trail trying to keep up with Joe. What were we doing you ask? Well, I've signed up for Cheat Mountain Moonshine Madness 50 miler in August and Joe is contemplating signing up, so we decided we should do a couple of night runs to "practice" under real conditions. Fortunately Joe made it easy on me, not only did he go first to clear all spider webs and scare off any snakes, he slowed down whenever I asked! Other night runs I've done I never found scary, probably because there were usually like 8 of us running. Saturday was different, every time Joe got more then 30 feet in front of me, every noise would spook me and I found myself sprinting to catch up or asking Joe to slow down. Weird! Somehow, between now and August, I'll have to get over my fear of running alone in the dark in the woods because Joe is a lot faster than me!! Of course I can work on all of you to sign up for this madness and join me on August 22 at 9pm at the starting line!!

pictures, night training run, etc.
Here are a couple of pictures from Highlands Sky. I hope all are recovered from the day and looking forward to their next trail adventure! And if you get a few minutes, check out Joel Wolpert's race report from HS, he won and broke the course record, pretty interesting read. The course is about 41 miles, his time comes to something like 8:39 pace per mile...impressive.

Glad you guys had a fun, uneventful night run last weekend. Thanks for pointing out Joel's report- always fun to read about the view from the front!
